The History of Heritage for Kids
Heritage For Kids was founded in 2004 by Ron and Cheryl Brown, two dedicated individuals who have devoted the last 27 years to helping at-risk youth and their families.

In 1978, Ron began serving children and families as a case worker and Cheryl, as a primary school teacher. Because the journey to becoming a foster parent was not as refined in those days as now, foster parents were ill-prepared to accommodate children with emotional and behavioral challenges related to abuse and neglect, and children bounced from foster home to foster home as a result. Because foster families were in short supply, Ron found himself searching unsuccessfully for a home for one of the children on his case load whose placement had disrupted. Thus, within two weeks of being married, Ron and Cheryl took in their first of several “temporary” foster placements, which more often than not, resulted in several weeks or months of stay.

Within three years of working as a case manager, Ron became Director and later the President of the multi-state child-placing agency. After thirteen years with the same agency, Ron and Cheryl moved to Texas and Ron founded a child-placing agency under the auspices of a for-profit corporation. Three years later, Ron and Cheryl borrowed from their available retirement funds, and with the help of a few friends founded a non-profit child-placing agency in Texas and then in Virginia. Now that all three of their children are in college, they have made the decision to return to, their home state, Pennsylvania, and concentrate their personal efforts to providing a heritage for the next generation through Heritage for Kids.
